In my last post I said I would write about my $2-$5NLHE session at the Beau Rivage. I don't remember too many hands I played. I remember winning a nice little pot with A-K early to put me up about $300. Then I went extremely card dead. I caught shit for hours. And I turned $800 into $0. I finally went broke when I had about $125 left. I limp from EP with A-J and after a couple of limpers, a young kid who just lost a big pot on the previous hand makes a nice size raise. Oh well, I stick my last bit in, hoping he's just tilting. He calls with A-K and I fail to improve. Now I'm stuck $700. I was card dead for so long. Usually I would just call it a day. But there's a Huge Donkey in the 5 seat. And of course, he's got a ton of money in front of him lol. He's been getting super lucky. He's mainly a calling station, but sometimes puts the pressure himself. So I decide to buy-in again. Another $500. And I lost some of it before the following hand.
I raise from EP with KK to about $35. The donkey calls and we see a flop heads up. The flop came 2-4-5. I make a bet of approximately $60. He then raises $200 more. I hate this. Even the donkey catches a hand every now and then(and on this day it was often). I have about $235 left. I put it all in and he calls the $35. Q on the turn, 9 on the river. Seems like two good cards. I turn over KK and he turns over 3-5. I drag a nice pot. For a second I thought he flopped 2 pair. But happily realized he flopped top-pair and open-ended. And some kinda way, didn't get there. To everyone's horror, that was his last hand. Joe Bueche turned top-two against his flopped 2-pair a little earlier to win a nice pot from him. So he lost a nice chunk in 2 hands and had enough.
Later I limped with 6-6 and we saw a flop multi-handed. The flop came down A-6-x. I usually don't try to get too cute with a set. I come right out and bet it. But there were a few aggressive players behind me that I was hoping would take a stab at it. And one of them did. I check and the player behind me bets $25. One caller, and the actions back to me. The board is pretty harmless so I decide to take one off. I call. The turn puts 2 clubs up there. First guy checks. I decide to bet here instead of checking to the initial bettor. He may have been just messing around with that $25 bet. The board is starting to get a little scary and I don't want him to check behind. I bet $75. And to my surprise, I get 2 callers. Uh Oh.. Come on dealer.. pair the board. And he did.. with a 6. Sweet! I have quads. First guy checks to me and I decide to bet a little more than I usually would here. I bet $200. The guy who bet the flop folds but the other players puts his last $100+ in there. I think he showed A-J. And I drag a nice one. The player behind me who bet the flop claimed to have Ac-10c. Flopping top pair and turning the nut flush draw. I wish he woulda got crazy and raised my turn bet. I would have only won a little more money though. Because he only had a couple hundred left. And if he raises the turn, the other player probably folds and I wouldn't have gotten his stack.
I don't remember too many more hands. I started running better. I made some hands and some money. I remember value betting 3rd pair on the river against a young guy who I knew would try to make a hero call. I played the hand(not necessarily purposely) like I didn't have anything. And when I bet the river in position, I figured he'd look me up. It's always nice when you bet the river, get called, and show a pair of 8's no kicker.. and your opponent says, that's good. This guy was aggressive and cocky so it felt good putting him in his place for a moment.
I was stuck $700. And I ended up winning $209. That always feels like a big win.
Onto my trip to Shorty's. Month's ago I was sweating Davey(southpaw rounder) in an online tournament that he was deep in. We had already planned to go to Shorty's the following day. When he was deep, I asked him if he won the tournament, would he treat me to a chili cheese dog from Shorty's($2)? He said, if I win this thing, I'll treat you to Mr. Lester's(a higher-class, rather expensive restaurant). Well unfortunately, he didn't win or place top 3 in that tournament. Last month when I won the Full Tilt 50K guarantee, I thought it was only fair that I treat him. Little did I know, a few days later he would take 3rd in the Pokerstars 70k guarantee for over 8k. I told him, "I guess we can just cancel out Mr. Lester's". And he came up with a better idea. He proposed that I pay for Mr. Lester's and he'll pay for Ruth Chris' Stake House in New Orleans. Deal! So Wednesday we headed to Shorty's for some $5-$5NLHE action and a great meal. We started a new must move game. I had one of those rare occasions were I got slapped upside the head with the deck. I made hands, got action, and my hands held.
It started when I was in the BB for $5 and someone made it $15 to go. I called with 2h-6h. I flopped a gutshot, turned a flush draw and double gutted, and river a straight. That wasn't a huge pot but it got me rolling. I made a boat, and then the bad end of a straight against possibly the worst player I've ever played against.
Then once I got moved to the main game it was more of the same. I flopped two pair out of the blind with Ks4s. Flop K-4-7. I bet, got one caller, Turn was a rag, I bet and he moved in for a callable amount. I called. He has K-Q.
I flopped two pair with K-7 out of the blind. I bet every street and got called by A-K, one pair. Then I caught the beautiful AA when someone held KK. Unfortunately he only had a couple hundred. But I got that too. It's not fun to blog about a session when you don't really lose a hand and the hands you won played themselves.(Though I'd love to have a session like that every time I play, F*^# THE BLOG! lol) Long story short, I won $1,009 in only a couple of hours.
Davey and I went eat Mr. Lester's. It was my first time there. I enjoyed it a lot. I'm not a huge steak guy. But I'm fat and I'm up for anything. Everything was great in my opinion. Fried onion rings, Four cheese potato Au Gratin, and a pepper crusted rib eye. It was delicious. Davey says he prefers Ruth Chris' steak(Sorry if I ruin any sponsorship deals from Mr. Lester's) so I'm looking forward to eating there Wednesday.
Well I have to get ready for work. My next blog will be able my session on Full Tilt last night.
"I'll call you man" -A guy drunk as shit at the Rat's Nest. This guy was early to act. He looks over at Parfait who's in the big blind and says, "I'll call you man." Ahh those were the days.
